By eliminating fast food from my diet, I shed over 300 pounds
Transforming my life and shedding excess weight was a realization that struck me deeply. For the longest time, I had been carrying a heavy burden without truly grasping its weight until I decided to make a change.
At my heaviest, I tipped the scales at 485 pounds, consuming an astonishing 6,000 calories daily. Home-cooked meals were rare, and vegetables were practically absent from my diet. Instead, I found comfort in indulging in frequent outings to fast-food joints, particularly drawn to fried and greasy delights.
Admittedly, the scale of my caloric intake might sound astounding, but it was my unfortunate reality. My mornings often started with fast-food breakfast sandwiches accompanied by hash browns and a large soda. Lunch consisted of more fast-food, usually tacos, coupled with additional sugary drinks. And for dinner, I could effortlessly devour half of a large stuffed-crust meat lover's pizza, along with breadsticks, cookies, and, yes, more soda.
There is no single thing that motivated me to decide to embark on a weight loss journey. The feeling of being bored with your 485-pound self. On January 1, 2016, my husband and I decided to fix our unhealthy lifestyle and make positive changes.
Surprisingly, by the end of that transformative month, I had successfully accomplished every single goal set before me. I taught myself the art of cooking healthy meals, educated myself about calorie counting through MyFitnessPal, and diligently attended the gym, making progress on the elliptical by increasing both duration and resistance.
While the pounds did start to drop, the most remarkable revelation was the addiction I developed towards my newfound healthy lifestyle. It was empowering, inspiring, and liberating to embrace this positive change wholeheartedly.
The genesis of my account stemmed from a simple personal diary. However, it quickly evolved into something more meaningful as I ventured into creating T-shirts. Many of us, including my followers and myself, struggled to find clothing that truly made us feel comfortable and confident, and that's when my Instagram account began to flourish.
To me, my followers are like an extended family, and our bond has given rise to a supportive and tight-knit community. We all share a common understanding – a shared feeling of being tired of merely existing and yearning to truly embrace life. Preserving this essence is of utmost importance to me, and I am committed to maintaining the authenticity of our connections.
Within this community, I emphasize the significance of self-acceptance and self-love. I encourage my followers to flaunt their bodies proudly, with the understanding that kindness to oneself is paramount. Our journey together is about embracing who we are and empowering each other to be unapologetically ourselves.
As I embraced my healthier lifestyle, I noticed a remarkable shift in my food preferences as well.
When it comes to my current diet, I refrain from strict restrictions as I believe they may trigger cravings for forbidden foods. Instead, I decided to take my favorite dishes and find ways to make them more nourishing and wholesome. One of my ultimate go-to meals is oven-roasted blackened salmon with a side of asparagus, prepared to perfection.
I became more mindful of my calorie intake, focusing on consuming ample protein, a variety of vegetables, and reducing my carb intake. Additionally, I bid farewell to the habit of overeating until I felt uncomfortable, and this positive change contributed to consistent and gradual weight loss.
Here's a glimpse of what a typical day's meals look like for me:
Breakfast: Three hard-boiled eggs paired with two pieces of turkey bacon.
Lunch: A satisfying plate of blackened salmon accompanied by roasted asparagus and a side salad.
Dinner: Delighting in a grilled chicken sandwich, cleverly served on a lettuce bun, complemented by a nutritious sweet potato.
Snack: For a healthy and fulfilling snack, I enjoy a handful of almonds along with a cheese stick.
This balanced and nourishing approach to eating has not only aided in my weight loss journey but has also infused me with renewed energy and a deep appreciation for the importance of mindful food choices.
The path to feeling self-assured enough to share pictures of my body on Instagram was a journey that spanned quite some time, filled with ups and downs. However, I eventually reached a point where I embraced my body and felt truly comfortable in my own skin. Now, having achieved this newfound confidence, I find myself able to inspire and motivate not only myself but also those who follow my journey.Throughout my transformation, I came to a profound realization: it's not solely about the weight lost but rather the incredible life gained in the process. The changes I experienced extended far beyond physical appearances; they touched the very core of my being, reshaping my perspective on life.
As I continue to share my story, I hope to inspire others to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery and acceptance. Embracing who we are, celebrating our progress, and finding joy in the journey are the true keys to a fulfilling and meaningful life.
